Types of Dog Harness

There are, of course, many good options available to choose from for your pup. What choice you make should be guided a by what type of harness you want for your furkid, and which is best for their size, breed and habits. Here's a look at some of the most common dog harness types and their individual pros and cons.

Back Clip Dog Harness

As the name suggests, the clip that a leash is secured to is located on the pup's back with a back clip harness, while the harness itself wraps girdle like around their body. One of the reasons many small dog pet parents opt for this type of harness is that it avoids the neck altogether, and as many smaller pups do have rather delicate necks that can only be a good thing.

There are also other benefits of the dog harness style, including the fact that leashes don't tangle as easily as they might with a front clip harness, they are easy and they can be very cute, as many options are colorful and/or embellished

The big downside - for some - of the back clip dog harness however is that they do not over a huge amount of control, so are not suited to pups who pull the leash a lot.

Front Clip Dog Harness

The front clip dog harness is the opposite of the option just mentioned. The leash clips to the front and the 'body' of the harness is more open. This is an option preferred by many dog trainers for difficult pups as it offers more control. It is still relatively easy to put on your pup but they may balk a little more at first.
